The New Civil Rights Movement

One of the critically acclaimed documentaries in 2007 has recently come out on DVD (93% on Rotten Tomatoes). It is called For The Bible Tells Me So, and deals with the issue of homosexuality and Christianity. Julie and I just watched it, and it is essential viewing. Aside from hours you could spend researching and reading books, it is the manifesto on the topic. A quick 95-minute punch to the brain.

Synopsis:
Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

Julie tells me that people don't like watching videos on blogs. Whatever, do as you wish. But, if I do recall, I am on the same planet that watches YouTube videos of Chris Crocker and lonelygirl15?? OK, I thought so. In that case, I will continue to put carefully selected videos on my blog that actually require a brain. So here are some very good clips from the movie.

Biblical Literalism...[I like the last parts... "If you aren't reading the Bible, then you are letting someone else read it for you."]

Is it a Choice? cartoon...funny stuff!

Seriously, if you disagree with anything Bishop Desmond Tutu says, may God have mercy on your soul.
