This is in response to the surprising amount of electoral blog posts I wrote last year. I don't remember writing that many.
It was easy to be excited about Barack Obama in the final months of 2008. You may be able to tell I was moderately excited by my blog posts.
A very eye-opening thing has happened since then. For me, anyways. I shouldn't be surprised, and it might even be cliche. But I have not seen it fleshed out in my lifetime of presidencies, especially when mixed with a shift in my political attitude over the last couple years. That being a theological adoption of Christian anarchy.
That eye-opening experience is that Barack Obama; with all the change, bravado, and excitement about his history-making presidential election; entered office....and acts like a president. Doesn't do much different than any other president. Pretty standard, and I'm sure it's in the job description. It shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary for most people, except some unfulfilled promises, etc.
I can list different self-preserving secular reasons why I took part in the political process. But my gut was in line with my beliefs, and I went against my gut to move with the crowd. I don't regret it, and I don't feel like I sold myself out. Watching his feel-good story turn into a fulfillment of my distrust of worldly power structures was eye-opening, but not surprising. I just know how I will be handling elections from now on. It feels good when your instincts are right, and when on a large enough scale, teach you a permanent, life-time trust in that instinct. "Note to self: You were right! I will never doubt you again!"
